Manage vendors and sales tax settings with precision and ease

Updated this week

The Accounting Settings section in Appliance.io helps you manage your vendor information and sales tax configurations all in one place. From adding supplier details to customizing how taxes are calculated across your sales channels, this setup ensures your accounting process stays smooth, compliant, and tailored to your business needs.

📍 Accessing Accounting Settings

To get started, open the sidebar and click Settings.
Scroll down to Advanced Settings, then select Accounting.

You’ll see two tabs at the top:

  • Vendors

  • Sales Tax

Let’s start with Vendors.

🧾 Vendors

The Vendors tab lets you store and manage your supplier information — from basic details to contact and ordering info.

➕ Adding a Vendor

Click Add Vendor to open a pop-up window. Here’s what to fill out:

Vendor Info

  • Vendor Name – The name of the supplier or company.

  • Brands – Choose one or more brands associated with this vendor.

Representative Info

  • Representative Name – The main contact person.

  • Email – The rep’s business email.

  • Phone Number – Their direct contact line.

  • Account Number – The vendor’s unique account identifier, if applicable.

Ordering Info (Optional)

  • Ordering Email – The email used for purchase orders.

  • Ordering Phone Number – The phone line used for order coordination.

Once everything’s filled in, click Save.

Your new vendor will now appear in the list. You can:

  • Edit an entry using the pencil icon

  • Delete one using the red trash can icon

💰 Sales Tax

Next, move to the Sales Tax tab. This section controls how taxes are calculated for your store, including fulfillment services and protection plans.

At the top-right, you’ll notice the Changelog button.
Instead of adding vendors, this button lets you track every change made in your tax settings — perfect for audits and transparency.

⚙️ Fulfillment Service Options

Under Sales Tax, you’ll find three key toggles related to fulfillment and protection plans:

  1. Disable sales tax on built-in appliances and related services

    • Turn this on if your state does not charge tax on built-in appliances.

    • It also removes tax from any fulfillment services linked to those appliances.

  2. Charge sales tax on fulfillment services

    • Enable this if you do charge tax on fulfillment services, even when the product itself isn’t taxable.

  3. Charge sales tax on protection plans when the item is taxable

    • Toggle this on to ensure protection plans follow the same tax rule as the taxable items they cover.

📦 Tax Calculation Options

You can choose how Appliance.io calculates taxes based on your local regulations:

  • By Purchase Location – Tax is based on where the sale occurs.

  • By Delivery Location – Tax is calculated by where the product is delivered.

If you choose Delivery Location, Appliance.io automatically applies the correct tax rates for that region — no manual setup needed.

If your area goes by Sold Location, simply select By Purchase Location instead.

You can also:

  • Edit tax rates manually to adjust for local changes

  • Enable or disable sales tax for out-of-state deliveries using the toggle switch
