Creating a Custom Product in Appliance.io lets you quickly sell items that don’t exist in your catalog — perfect for out-of-the-norm model numbers, special deals, or one-time sales. This feature helps you process orders smoothly without disrupting your inventory workflow, while still keeping accurate records of pricing, delivery, and cost.
📍 Accessing Custom Products
To begin, open a Quote and click + Line Item.
Below the item search bar, select Custom Product.
This opens the custom product form, where you’ll enter all the necessary details before turning the quote into an order.
🧩 Step 1: Enter Custom Product Details
Start by entering the Custom Model Number.
Be as accurate as possible — this helps keep your records searchable later.
Next, complete the product fields:
Toggle Is Taxed on if applicable
Choose the Condition
Enter Quantity
Set the Price
(Optional) Add a Description
Descriptions are helpful for internal notes or special item details, but they’re not required. Once complete, move on to fulfillment.
🚚 Step 2: Add Fulfillment Type
Every custom product needs a Fulfillment Type to define how it’s delivered or handled. For custom items, select Custom Install
Then:
Give it a name
Enter the price
Toggle Haul Away if needed
Click Save when finished.
Once everything looks correct, complete the payment to convert the quote into an order.
📦 Step 3: Check Stock
After the quote becomes an order, click Check Stock.
At this point, you decide how the item should be handled in inventory.
🔄 Option A: Inventory Bypass (One-Time Sale)
If the item is a one-off sale and won’t be stocked in inventory, choose Inventory Bypass.
In the pop-up, enter:
Serial number (optional)
Delivery method
Date of sale
Approximate cost
Then click Save.
The item will immediately reflect as delivered.
The sale date is treated as the delivery date.
This workflow is designed for items sold and completed right away — such as same-day pickup or delivery.
🏷 Option B: Add to Inventory Instead
If you plan to reuse that model number in the future, don’t bypass inventory.
Instead, add the item properly into your inventory system so it can be sold again later.
For full instructions, see the Custom Item Setup article.
🎉 You’re All Set!
That’s how you create and sell a Custom Product in Appliance.io.
This feature gives you flexibility to handle unusual model numbers, quick special sales, and one-off items — all without breaking your workflow.
